Marketing is like fishing.

To catch a fish, you need some bait. In marketing, you also need to have some bait.

The difference is… if you can get good at using this ‘bait’, then the amount of leads you will generate will be like nothing you’ve seen before.

In the next 3 minutes, I will show you how to get more qualified leads by using a few simple words.

How To ‘Lay The Bait’ In Marketing

When I said that marketing was like fishing, I meant it.

If you’re fishing, then you need something to attract and eventually catch the fish.

Just like how when you’re marketing, you need something to attract new customers.

And when you’re advertising, this is called a headline or a hook.

Now, the headline has been studied for decades. Marketers have been researching psychology and advertising trends to find the perfect headline, but you don’t need to do all of that.

Because I’m about to hand you 3 easy ways to write headlines that sell, right on a silver platter.

Let’s get into it!

Method 1 - Say Their Name!

Beyoncé wasn’t lying when she said, “Say my name, say my name!”.

This method works best when your ad is for a specific group of people or a specific area.

How it works is you immediately say who your ad is for in the headline/hook.

Here are 2 examples from recent Meta Ads:

  1. “London Homeowners!” - From a construction company.

  1. “Buckinghamshire Ladies 👋” - From a skin clinic (P.S. Emojis work well on Social Media Ads, they stand out & catch attention).

Let’s look at the first one - if you were a homeowner in London, that would catch your attention immediately. You would think,

“This is made exactly for me!”

That’s why it works so well when marketing - you catch the attention of those who you want to buy from you.

Method 2 - Point Out A Problem

If you generated £180,000 worth of leads in 30 days, how would that affect you?

That’s exactly what a kitchen & bathroom renovation company in Norwich did in 2023 - and they used this exact method.

This company understood that people bought from them for one reason…

Because they didn’t like how their current kitchen or bathroom looked!

And this was the headline that got them 18 leads in one month:

  • “Is your kitchen or bathroom looking tired?”

18 leads from this 7 word headline.

And one client in that industry is usually worth £5,000-£15,000.

This proves one thing:

Customers buy from you because they want a problem solved.

They buy a gym membership if they want to get in shape, they call a tree surgeon if they want a tree cut down.

So if you call out a problem your customers are having, they’ll naturally listen to what you have to say.

This one works best when you don’t have a specific audience and are instead targeting people based on why they buy.

Method 3 - Show Off Your Offer

This one can go hand-in-hand with the previous method, because it offers a unique way to solve their problem.

And this method works best when you have a specific guarantee.

An example would be:

“Throw Off 4KG Of Fluid & Fat In The Very First Weekend Of Starting”

That is an irresistible offer for anyone who wants to lose weight. They wouldn’t even need to read the rest of the ad, they’d be sold from that headline alone!

This method should only be used if you have a big & bold offer that makes you stand out from competitors.

The catch is that you don’t want to make it sound impossible. You must find a middleground between making it sound believable and making it sound too good to be true.

In other words, don’t underpromise but don’t overpromise. Promise your realistic best result.

A good example of finding a middleground is something like:

‘Sign 10 New Clients In 30 Days Or You Don’t Pay’

Again, every business owner wants more clients so this is irresistible.

So now you have 3 ways to write killer headlines and you know when to use each of them.

You now know how to get more clients by writing just a few words.

If you use these right, then you will have a wave of new leads who can become your customers.

To get even better ad results, you still need to know how to write a decent ad after your headline. To find out how to do that, then read this article next.
