The truth is that if you’re not using social media, you’re missing out on a wave of potential clients.
Social media is everywhere, which is why more and more local businesses are using it. But here’s the catch: very few use it the right way.
So in the next 3 minutes, this article will show you a social media formula to attract clients like a magnet.
Let’s dive in.
What Should You Post On Social Media?
Social media should be used as a tool to build trust with potential clients.
The goal is to make your followers believe that you’re an expert, so that if they ever need your services, they know that you’re the guy to go to.
You can do this through 2 main methods:
Show off your work. If you’re a renovation company, show off a project you just completed. This lets your followers see direct examples of what you can do for them.
Show off your expertise. You do this through informative posts. For example, if you’re a roofer, a post about ‘5 Signs Of A Leaky Roof’ will prove that you know what you’re talking about.
Every time you post one of these two, you show your followers that you are an expert in your field. If they trust you, they’re more likely to buy from you.
However, we can’t just post these alone and get potential clients to contact you. You have to do one more thing to make customers buy from you.
So let’s quickly touch on that.
How To Turn Followers Into Clients
Social media marketing still has the same goal as other types of marketing - to make sales.
Lots of local businesses find it hard to sell on social media for one reason:
They overdo it.
Imagine if you were on social media. You open up Facebook or Instagram wanting to watch some videos, but suddenly, you’re interrupted by a post trying to sell you something.
You’d be pretty annoyed, right?
Now, imagine that every single post tried to sell you something.
You would uninstall the app in a heartbeat!
That’s why we can’t sell on every post. Without building trust first, selling will just annoy your followers and lead to them unfollowing you.
Also, selling on every post could make your followers get used to being sold to, to the point where the posts lose their meaning. It’s like when you read a word over and over again to the point where it doesn’t even look like a word anymore.
In marketing, we call this habituation.
Basically, you want to avoid doing the same thing all the time, otherwise it will lose its meaning for your followers.
Instead, you must balance building trust with potential customers and selling to them.
Luckily, there’s an easy method to do this:
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook
This concept was made by Gary Vaynerchuk, one of the best social media marketing gurus out there.
The ‘jab, jab, jab’ means building trust with your followers. The ‘right hook’ means asking them to do something, such as visiting your website or filling out a form for a free quote.
As the name suggests, you want roughly a 3:1 ratio of building trust and selling.
So for every 3 posts you build trust, you can make 1 post trying to convert your followers into clients.
This method makes sense because you build initial trust with the first post, make them trust you even more with the second post, and then you’re in a position where they’re more likely to take the next step.
That’s a sound strategy. But there’s one final thing that local businesses ask when using social media:
“How Often Should I Post & How Long Will This Take Me?”
To get the fastest results, the truth is that it’s best to post daily. Unfortunately, this will take time away from running your business, which is why we have a compromise:
