One Social Media Habit That Separates Growing Businesses From Stuck Ones

Most business owners just post content and hope it works.
They hit “publish”, get a few likes, and move on.
But if you want to find what actually works for your business, you have to test.
And not once a month, and definitely not when you “have time.”
Test one thing a week. Minimum.
That one habit will tell you what to keep doing, what to stop doing, and what to double down on to get more clients faster.
Let’s break it down.
Why You Should Test Weekly
Marketing is a science. You learn what works and do more of it.
When you test something, you’re collecting data about what your audience responds to.
It’s like fixing cars.
If you change ten parts at once, you’ll never know which one solved the problem.
But if you change one part at a time, you learn exactly what made it work.
Your content works the same way.
What “Testing” Actually Means
You don’t have to run complicated science experiments with explosions and chemicals.
Testing simply means trying one small change every week and watching what happens.
Here are a few easy examples:
Test a new intro (hook) for your post.
Test a new format. (Video instead of a photo. A carousel post, basically a slideshow, instead of text.)
Test your posting time. (Morning vs evening, and then see which gets more engagement.)
Test your topic. (Tips from an industry expert vs behind-the-scenes vs client results.)
Test what you ask your audience to do. (Ask people to message you vs comment vs visit your site.)
You only need to change one thing each week to find patterns.
What To Track (Depending On Your Goal)
You can’t test properly unless you know what success looks like.
So before testing, decide your main goal.
If you want more clients → Track leads or inquiries
See which type of post gets you messages, bookings, or calls.
That’s what makes you money.
If you want a loyal audience → Track engagement
Look at likes, comments, and saves.
This shows who cares about what you say, and who might be willing to buy from you in the future.
If you want to go viral → Track impressions or views
Maybe you want to grow brand awareness.
Focus on what gets shared and seen the most.
Each goal needs a different type of post.
Testing tells you which one fits your business.
How To Make This Social Media Testing Process 10X Easier
Lots of business owners skip social media testing because they think it’s too technical or complicated.
But nowadays, some tools do it for you.
Social media (through your creator dashboard) and Google (you can use Google Search Console to see how people find your website) already show you insights for free.
You just have to look at them once a week.
If you test one new thing every week for a year, that’s 52 new lessons.
Some ideas will fail (good, now you know what not to do).
Some ideas will take off (great, do more of those).
